Most include cut-outs or contours so that you can sleep on your side without pressing on your mask, which can otherwise be painful or even cause air leaks. Some CPAP pillows also offer additional features like hose tethers and cooling options.

Do CPAP pillows help reduce mask leaks?

CPAP pillows can help reduce mask leaks by preventing pressure that can break the seal between your mask cushion and your skin. Some CPAP pillows are also designed to provide extra stability so that you pull less on your mask and tubing.

Does everyone who uses CPAP need a CPAP pillow?

You only need to use a CPAP pillow if an ordinary pillow doesn’t allow you to sleep comfortably while wearing your CPAP mask, or if you’re looking for additional features like tubing management. Back sleepers, for example, can usually use a standard pillow without any problems.

What should I look for in a CPAP pillow?

The right CPAP pillow will fulfill all of your usual pillow needs and preferences — such as loft (height), firmness, filling material, and price — while also offering a design that suits your mask shape and preferred sleep position.
